Good morning.
On behalf of DP World Dar es Salaam, it is a privilege to join you at the 1st Sustainable Land Transport Week, an important milestone as Tanzania advances towards a modern, efficient, and environmentally responsible transport ecosystem.
We sponsored this event because our commitment aligns closely with the national vision of building a transport sector that supports sustainable economic growth, strengthens regional integration, and enhances trade competitiveness.
DP World is proud to be a long-term partner in Tanzania’s transformation journey. Through ongoing investments in digitalization, automation, and port efficiency, we are working to ensure that Dar es Salaam Port becomes a leading logistics hub for East and Central Africa. Our efforts focus on reducing cargo dwell time, improving supply chain visibility, and strengthening multimodal connections which directly support sustainable land transport.
Sustainability is at the core of DP World’s global strategy. This includes initiatives that reduce carbon emissions, adopt cleaner energy solutions, and optimize fleet operations. In Tanzania, we are exploring opportunities together with government and industry partners to reinforce greener logistics pathways, enhance rail-port connectivity, and promote efficient cargo movement that reduces road congestion and environmental impact.
We believe that sustainable land transport is not only a national priority, but also a shared responsibility. It requires collaboration between government, regulators, private sector partners, development institutions, and the communities we serve. Events like this week provide an important platform to align goals, share innovations, and build partnerships that unlock collective progress.
DP World commissioned four (4) new fully electric-powered Ship-To-Shore cranes. By the end of quarter 3 of 2026, we will also receive eight (8) hybrid RTGs (Rubber Tyred Gantry).
To supplement these, allow me to highlight an initiative that requires the least financial investment and probably the least time to implement—if there is the will to do so. The initiative is discipline and efficiency.
If we as an industry decide to invest our efforts in being better disciplined so that cargo spends less time in the supply chain, and improve efficiency to attract higher volumes carried on fewer vessels, we will achieve a lower carbon footprint at a lower unit cost while handling more volumes than we currently do.
DP World continues to be the driving force and a change agent behind initiatives that will see Tanzania, and the supply chains associated with the Port of Dar es Salaam, handle more volumes efficiently and sustainably.
Honorable Guest of Honor, our collective efforts have this year attracted vessels with zero emissions to the port, such as GRIMALDI LINES, which now calls at Dar es Salaam twice monthly with specialist general cargo vessels. All these vessels have started calling at the Port of Dar es Salaam for the first time in 2025 after observing significant and consistent improvements in port efficiency.
As we look to the future, DP World remains committed to supporting Tanzania’s ambition to modernize transport infrastructure, expand trade opportunities, and ensure inclusive economic prosperity. Together, we can build a transport system that is smarter, greener, and more resilient for generations to come.
Honorable Prime Minister, honorable ministers, esteemed leaders, and valued partners, thank you for your continued trust and collaboration with DP World. We are honored to stand with you as Tanzania strengthens its position as a regional gateway for sustainable trade and mobility.
Asanteni Sana
